AJSTI Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics
The Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics of the Association for Jungian Sand Therapy in Ireland applies to all members and, in the main, is offered as a general guide to a member’s practice as a Jungian Sand Therapist and their obligations in order to maintain accreditation.

The code is based around three guiding principles:
1: Maintaining respect for the client’s welfare and privacy at all times
2: Being committed to ongoing professional development
3: Behaving with honesty and integrity in all our professional relationships

The code’s contents should be considered complementary to those more detailed codes of ethics and practice already compiled by the main accrediting bodies in the psychotherapeutic field and to which all AJSTI members are already committed. As such, its brevity should not be seen as indicating a lowering of standards but rather an enlarging of those ethics and practices our members already subscribe to.

In Detail:
1) Where their client is concerned, members agree to:
a. Provide for every session a ‘free and protected space’ that values the client; respects their feelings, opinions and abilities; and offers privacy, understanding and support.
b. Encourage clients to work only at a pace and on matters they are willing to engage with.
c. Protect a client’s privacy and confidentiality even at supervision level unless their obligations under law dictate otherwise.
d. Respect the sanctity of a client’s tray or trays by always earnestly endeavouring to faithfully reproduce same at supervision when required and, in such a circumstance, protecting it from being photographed or photographs of same being copied without the client’s express permission.

2) All members are obliged to comply fully with the ethics and standards of their main accrediting body and, in addition, to comply with the provisions contained in the AJSTI Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics.

3) All members are obliged to maintain accreditation with their core accreditation body and, if such accreditation lapses, to make it known to the Secretary of AJSTI within one month of such lapse occurring.

4) No member shall present themselves or allow themselves to be represented as having a membership status of AJSTI other than that which has been approved by AJSTI.

5) While members are encouraged to attend no fewer than 4x2-hour Group Supervision sessions in any one year and to serve as a Presenter as often as possible, they are required to attend a minimum of 6 hours supervision annually. This can include a maximum of 2-hours individual supervision with an accredited Supervisor with Jungian sand therapy training, but can consist entirely of group supervision.

6) All members are required to maintain an appropriate level of Therapist Practice Insurance.

7) All members are obliged to receive the appropriate level of Supervision consistent with their requirement for re-accreditation as defined from time to time by the Accreditation Committee.

8) While full membership of AJSTI must be renewed on an annual basis, formal re-accreditation must be applied for every three years. Failure to do so will result in loss of accreditation.

9) The Board of AJSTI is the final arbiter in awarding accreditation at all levels.

10) All Accredited Members must agree and accept that failure to adhere to this Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics may result in their loss of accreditation.

If a man is endowed with an ethical sense and is convinced of the sanctity of ethical values, he is on the surest road to a conflict of duty. (however)... A conflict of duty forces us to examine our conscience and thereby to discover the shadow.
